About Us

In 1978, Fawn came to Georgia as a birthday present; she was the first in an enduring and passionate love affair with the Irish Setter. Although Fawn was lost far too soon, Georgia longed to have another Irish. After an interval that was too long, Georgia obtained her "boy," Jake, (Far Point Dream Maker), her first Champion, from breeder- friend Susan Miller in 1996. Jake went on the road with girlfriend Cheryl Mika and came home in 3 months with several majors and Best of Breeds, finishing in his home state of Colorado with back-to-back 5-point majors, one a specialty major! This was extremely exciting! Georgia decided she wanted to not only own but breed Irish Setters. It took several years of looking to find just the right girlfriend for Jake.

During that time, we moved three times and across the country to Michigan. Currently, the kennel is located in southwestern Michigan on acreage that is wonderfully suited to the breed - plenty of room to run.

In late 2000, along came beautiful Tara (Shangrila Deep Dark Secret), Windswept's first owner-handled champion. Tara burst onto the show scene in early 2002 and finished her Championship before mama could even catch her breath, crowning her career as the winner of the American Bred Class at the Irish Setter National Specialty in Lexington, Kentucky!

According to plan, Tara came home to finish "growing up" and to be bred to Jake. Tara brought us one gorgeous puppy in early January 2003. Depending on several considerations, Tara may be bred again before being shown as a Special.

To add to our line, in July 2002 we purchased a bitch puppy, Lexi, from Keliare Irish Setters--Kim Lamontagne. Lexi (Keliare Brandy Alexandra) is half-Australian and brings to us the best of both worlds. She has become as lovely and show-worthy as our other two Irish. She won her first two classes as a six month old and showed a good deal of ring presence and attitude. Lexi finished her championship in early 2005, having won her second major—a 5-point major! She will be bred in the summer of 2005.

GG is the product of our very first breeding! Although she was a singleton puppy, we consider ourselves very lucky to have such a beautiful girl from our Tara and Jake. GG is a handful of dynamite, which has slowed her show career to some extent. The judges have loved her but, when she was younger, were unable to see her beautiful movement for her antics. She is settling now that she has reached the ripe age of 29 months! GG caused a great deal of excitement when she went Group 4 in Des Moines, Iowa, under breeder- judge Mrs. Karen C. Wilson! Her first major came at the Kalamazoo Kennel Club Show over the Memorial Day weekend. We are looking forward to having her “finished” this year. GG will be bred later this summer.

Of course, we want to breed the best Irish Setters ever, and our breeding program will be selective and reflect this effort, finding and breeding only the best possible dogs. With the Lord's help and some good Irish luck, we will produce more conformation-quality dogs in the future as well as some 'kids' for those special families who want one of these high spirited and loving breeds to enrich their lives. For now, we are enjoying the antics of our lovely and lively family as we plan for the future.

Windswept has begun its breeding program with a bang! Tara has presented us with two litters from dogs of the Far Point line and Lynne Mehring's Shangrila line. The puppies (14 of them) in both of these litters are beautiful. We consider this a very good start to our breeding program.
